John Boles was an American actor who worked prolifically in movies and on stage for 28 years. I discovered him in 1984 (he had died in 1969.)

A movie buff from an early age, I had no idea who he was and had never seen him before in any movie. when I was taken to the Vagabond Theater to see a revival of “Back Street” starring John Boles and Irene Dunn. After 10 minutes into the film, I asked my companion “where has he been all my life?.” By the time the film had ended, I had fallen in love with John Boles, the actor.

I began an immediate search for memorabilia about him from the New York Times Book Review section and the Los Angeles Times Book Review section, as well the Margaret Herring Film Library and Cinecon dealers.
I received hundreds of letters offering tidbits on his life and career and pictures of him to purchase.

Promised to my mailing list in 1993, I was finally able in 2016 to self-publish the first ever hard-cover book on John Boles with over 60 photographs and movie stills.

Having recently seen the restored movie “The King of Jazz”, I believe that John Boles had the most handsome face in movies plus a beautiful singing voice, but he also had the most sincere and warm persona that changed the life of this moviegoer for the last 33 years.
