CHANDLER, AZ (May 2017) — May 25-28, 2017 marks the first appearance of award-winning children’s magazine Story Monsters Ink® at Phoenix Comicon, to be held at the Phoenix Convention Center. Touted as Phoenix’s premier multi-genre entertainment and comic book convention, Comicon’s family-friendly environment pairs perfectly with the magazine’s values.

“This event is focused on fun, fandom and family. Participating at Comicon just makes sense for Story Monsters Ink,” said Linda F. Radke, president of Story Monsters LLC and publisher of Story Monsters Ink magazine. “We love it when kids enjoy reading and spending time with their families, and Phoenix Comicon is the best of both worlds!”

Story Monsters Ink magazine is known for its kid-friendly, star-studded cover stories and interviews with celebrities and authors—from Marvel Comics’ Stan Lee to Shaquille O’Neal, Jamie Lee Curtis, Henry Winkler, Reading Rainbow’s LeVar Burton, Sesame Street’s Sonia Manzano, Kristi Yamaguchi—and more. A 2016 Gold Award Recipient by Mom’s Choice Awards and named among the best magazines for kids and teens by School Library Journal, Story Monsters Ink is part of the Story Monsters LLC family, a company dedicated to all things literary: book production and marketing services, author networking services and Story Monsters BookBank, a 501(c)(3) division that helps fund books and author visits to schools and libraries as a way to improve literacy and promote enthusiasm for reading. It also launched the #CaughtReading campaign, a global challenge aimed at encouraging literacy both in and out of the classroom.

Story Monsters Ink’s new June issue features a behind-the-scenes interview with The Wonder Years actress Danica McKellar. Beyond acting, McKellar is an author and mathematician on a mission to demonstrate to middle school-aged girls that it is cool to be smart.

At Phoenix Comicon, new one-year print subscribers will receive a free Story Monster plush reading buddy. Also, the first 125 visitors at the Story Monsters LLC booth each day will get a free “greenie bag” filled with goodies such as Cheery: The True Adventures of a Chiricahua Leopard Frog by Dr. Elizabeth W. Davidson, Story Monsters Ink magazine, door hangers, bookmarks and more. The Story Monsters LLC booth (#HH904 and HH906) is in the Hall of Heroes, located on the third floor.

Story Monsters LLC is proud to co-op at Phoenix Comicon with authors like Frank Wood (The Longest Halloween, Vols. 1-3), Jane Frances Ruby (The Azurite Encounter and Voiceless Whispers) Carole P. Roman (Can’t A Princess Be A Firefighter? and Rocket-Bye), Conrad J. Storad (Rattlesnake Rules and Gator, Gator, Second Grader), Giddy Gragert (Don’t Play With Your Food: Oliver’s Pub and Don’t Play With Your Food: Fufu’s Bistro), Shirin Zarqa-Lederman (The Trotters of Tweeville: JouJou McVue and The Trotters of Tweeville: Zavis DaMavis), and Kathy Peach (The Tiniest Tumbleweed).
