Abuse Of Painkillers Called Nation’s ‘Single Biggest Public Health Concern’ – Interviews Available
In a nation where enough opioid pain relievers were prescribed in 2012 to give every adult his or her own bottle of pills, Hoosiers were getting even more than that. Indiana ranked ninth in pain pills, with more than enough prescriptions for every resident to have one, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Those were among the sobering statistics cited Friday at a congressional hearing examining what the federal government is doing to combat the nation’s opioid abuse epidemic.
