Stock markets on Monday rose by nearly 1,300 points after experiencing one of its worst weeks in over a decade.

The Dow rose 1,293.96 points, or 5.1%, marking the best one-day rise since March 2009, according to MarketWatch.

The rebound comes after a week of decline due to fears the spread of the deadly Chinese coronavirus could impact global markets.

Scott Clemons, the chief investment strategist for private banking at Brown Brothers Harriman, said the rapid spread of the virus across the globe was the root cause of the week-long decline.
