CORONAVIRUS: WHAT SMALL BUSINESSES CAN DO TO PREPARE
Digital Big Tech Drives Small Business Success
COVID-19 BUSINESS ANALYST: Jake Ward, is President of the Connected Commerce Council (3C), a membership organization for small businesses empowered by digital tools and technology.
I thought you might be interested in having Jake Ward, president of the Connected Commerce Council, appear on you show to discuss a number of current issues that affect Texas small businesses. Specifically, Jake is able to provide some insights into the following issues:
Coronavirus impact on small businesses: while COVID-19 has forced small businesses across the state to close their doors, businesses that embraced digital tools, from e-commerce to Google docs, were positioned to fall less hard, and rebound stronger, due to that digital safety net. A safety net that is continually under attack from policy makers like AG Paxton.
Reopening the Economy: Despite the protests and the actions of Governors, small businesses should feel empowered to decide when they reopen their businesses and not rush to reopen just because stay-at-home orders are lifted. Whenever possible, businesses should consider embracing or expanding their use of e-Commerce and digital tools to supplement their brick and mortal sales until things “return to normal.”
Paycheck Protection Program: Despite Congress’ intention to supply relief for small businesses, billions of dollars in PPP funds have gone to publicly traded companies and multi-million dollar privately help corporations. SBA defines small businesses as companies with up to 1,500 employees in some sectors. This is the underlining problem that cause PPP to fail at its main goal. Until SBA defines small businesses in a way that recognizes the differing needs of a 5-person company and a 1,500 company, the smallest of small businesses will continue to be left behind.
Please let me know if you’re interested in having Jake on to discuss these and other small business issues.
