Dr. Rabia Belt was appointed by the President to the National Council on Disability in 2016. Dr. Belt is an Assistant Professor at Stanford Law School. She is a member of the Board of Directors for the Disability Rights Bar Association. She is a legal historian specializing in mental disability and citizenship and is at work on a book manuscript titled Disabling Democracy in America: Disability, Citizenship, Suffrage, and the Law, 1819-1920. She lectures frequently on the rights of people with disabilities, especially people with mental disabilities. She received an A.B. from Harvard College, a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan
