The five-day hearing concerning whether Missouri’s last abortion clinic can keep its license begins Monday ahead of the state’s Administrative Hearing Commission in St. Louis. Commissioner Sreenivasa Rao Dandamudi is not expected to issue a ruling until February or later, and if the license is revoked, Missouri will become the first state without an abortion provider since Roe v. New York’s Department of Financial Services is launching an investigation to determine whether UnitedHealth Group Inc.’s health algorithm, which a study found is racially biased against black patients, violates the state’s antidiscrimination law. The Department of Financial Services and state health department jointly wrote to UnitedHealth’s top executive asking the company to terminate use of the algorithm or demonstrate that it analyzes the health and need for care for white and black patients with equal aptitude. The office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is attempting to prevent an amendment brought by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) from making it to her finalized drug pricing bill, according to two people familiar with the matter. The proposed change, accepted during the House Education and Labor Committee’s markup last week, would demand federal agencies share a feasibility report with Congress by the end of 2021 concerning whether pharmaceutical companies that raise prices faster than the rate of inflation can be required to pay refunds to employer-sponsored health plans.
