Election 2020 – What Happens Next
Current take-aways and critical points following election day.
Donald Trump will win the presidency if he wins Nevada. This is a more likely possibility than winning Arizona.
The importance of Nevada has gone understated in the last 24 hours largely due to inactivity and the state’s election commission halting the vote count.
After winning Wisconsin and Michigan, Joe Biden has increased his lead for the presidency and narrowed the paths for Donald Trump to win.
With five states yet to declare results the most pivotal of these for both Biden and Trump is Nevada.
Biden needs to win both Nevada and Arizona to claim the presidency. Trump can win either but does not have to win both.
Two key aspects in Nevada are helping Trump.
The vote differential after 75% reporting is small and stands at only 7,647. Trump can close it.
Trump is outperforming his 2016 results by 4% in Clark County and 1.5% in Washoe County, while Biden is not.
What Happens Next
Despite the uncertainty of the election results the path forward will be broken into two parts.
First, within the next few days either Donald Trump or Joe Biden will be declared the president-elect based on the state conducted vote counts.
Second, but more controversial, legal actions have already been initiated and will continue to be taken by both campaigns to protect and challenge current vote totals.
The end result will drag the country through weeks of legal entanglements and electoral confusion.
How does the analysis above in this election compare to Donald Trump’s election victory in 2016? What was done right? What opportunities were missed? What parts of the strategy paid off? What does all of this mean for both campaigns and the American people?
As the deputy campaign manager for the president’s 2016 campaign I can provide insights and experiences about both campaign cycles and their impacts.
Rick Gates rose through multiple senior roles in Donald Trump’s campaign starting in March 2016, rising to deputy campaign chairman. Following Trump’s successful election, he continued his service as the deputy chairman to the president-elect’s Inaugural Committee, and after, as a co-founder of the America First Policies Super PAC for the president. During this time, he was witness to many incredible moments of history that will define presidential politics for years to come.***************************************************************************************
