But such a structure demands an enlightened citizenry and demands active participation. The system ceases to function when the American citizen relinquishes his or her responsibility to self-govern.
This is the root cause of America’s steady and increasingly rapid lurch towards tyranny. If the American people no longer read the Constitution, understand the Constitution, or care about the Constitution, the guardrails to prevent an overreaching tyrannical Government from reducing the citizenry to slaves is removed.
We are living in a post-constitutional America, wherein Americans passively permit the Government to seize our liberties due to both laziness, dereliction of duty, and also ignorance.
Only a return to Constitutionality can save our republic. This requires that the American people read and understand the Constitution and accept their roles as guardians of America.
We either survive by embracing the Constitution or die by abandoning it. The beauty of the Constitution is that it’s written in plain ink. You don’t have to be a lawyer to understand it. America is either a Nation of laws or it isn’t.
The chaos we are experiencing in America is a direct consequence of our failure to accept that the being an American is more than a privilege — it comes with immense responsibility. The War for our Independence didn’t end when we defeated the British; that’s when it began.
