Hello everyone! I’m Laura DeAngelis and like most people, I can honestly say my life has not turned out the way I planned. And that’s the best thing that could have happened to me.

When I was 16-years-old, I had it all mapped out. I would go to a top “J” school; graduate; move to Manhattan; become the next Katie Couric; get married and live happily ever after. Not necessarily in that order.

Fast forward nearly 24 years and you’ll find my framed bachelors and masters degrees from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism propped up against a wall of my Manhattan apartment. The apartment I bought after living in Indiana and Connecticut but before meeting my second ex-husband.

Meanwhile, after 8+ years of sweating or freezing for live shots and reporting on too many tragedies to recall, I traded in my reporter notebooks for a clipboard to take a producer position at West Glen Communications, Inc. Soon after, I started hosting the company’s monthly video magazine show “Health & Home Report.” (www.hhrtv.com)  WestGlen went out of business in the summer of 2013, and since then, I’ve had semi-steady work as a producer, but my official title is that of freelancer. I’m also a professional voice over artist and have also worked as an on-camera spokesperson for companies including LG, Flight Song Wines and Culturelle.

As it turns out, throughout my school days, the moves and the marriages, one thing always remained constant – my love for exercise and fitness. (Thank you, Mom and Dad for getting me started in gymnastics at the age of six!) On my best and worst days, I can always count on a workout to right whatever ails me.

In the summer of 2010, I put those passions to the test and began my studies to become certified in the fitness industry. Today, I am a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and a Certified Group Exercise Instructor with the Aerobics & Fitness Association of America (AFAA). I am currently making my way through NASM’s Fitness Nutrition Specialist course and hope to add that certificate to my credentials by the start of 2016.

My lifelong love affair with fitness hasn’t always been easy. It’s been filled with more injuries than I care to remember. Which is why I started this blog. I want to help you avoid making the same mistakes I’ve made on this lifelong journey of staying in shape. Together, we can enjoy being active without unnecessary pain and injury.

To my parents, family and friends – thank you for giving me the confidence to finally make this blog, and all that may follow, a reality. Whether you’re in your 20s, 30s, 40s or beyond, I hope my anecdotes and tips inspire you to have fun, be fit and feel fabulous!
