Chosen People Ministries, in partnership with Alliance for the Peace of Jerusalem, will host 9/11 and the New Middle East, a two-day gathering on Sept. 10 and 11 to honor the fallen and survivors on the twentieth anniversary of 9/11 and help participants, both locally and around the globe, view current events taking place in Israel and the Middle East through a scriptural lens.
Held at Trinity Baptist Church in New York City, 9/11 and the New Middle East will be hosted by Tom and JoAnn Doyle, founders of Uncharted Ministries, and will feature notable speakers such as best-selling author and speaker Anne Graham Lotz, best-selling author Joel C. Rosenberg, Chosen People Ministries President Dr. Mitch Glaser, Dallas Theological Seminary Professor and best-selling author Dr. Darrell Bock and Moody Bible Institute professor Michael Rydelnik. Additionally, the event will include a panel discussion as well as testimonies from pastors, ministry leaders, and first responders who served following the events of 9/11.
“The tragedy of 9/11 made the threat of terrorism real in the U.S. and created a new understanding for what had plagued Israel for decades. We hope that 9/11 and the New Middle East will spark discussion on how the Middle East has been and continues to be affected by the life-changing events on that day,” said Glaser. “God is doing big things in this region with His people and I look forward to the opportunity for others to learn of the good news.”
The conference will kick off Friday, Sept. 10 with a special remembrance ceremony called “Yizkor,” which in Hebrew means “to remember,” and a Sabbath Candle-Lighting by event participants, including 9/11 surviving family members. Piano music by Emmy-nominated Marty Goetz and a slideshow of those who lost their lives that day will accompany the opening. On Saturday, Sept. 11, the conference will continue with worship and speakers and will incorporate moments of silence and prayer commemorating the exact times each plane struck the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and when the fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania.
“I will never forget the feeling of that day as our country came together. As one, we arose and stood together in the face of great terror and adversity,” said Glaser. “Twenty years later, we are uniting to reflect not only on what was lost but what was learned while looking at the new Middle East. We hope many individuals will join us for this historic time of prayer for God’s hands to move.”
BIO: Dr. Mitch Glaser was born into a nominally Orthodox Jewish home in New York City at a time when views on life, death and religion were beginning to undergo major changes in American society. His religious roots were soon lost after his Bar Mitzvah at age 13 to the excitement and energy of the 1960s.
After dropping out of college in 1970, Dr. Glaser moved to California and was introduced to various Eastern religions which, while intriguing him, did not answer the questions of his soul. It was after two of his closest friends received Jesus as their Messiah that Dr. Glaser first heard the Gospel message. After reading the New Testament and Studying Messianic prophecies in the Hebrew Scriptures, Dr. Glaser himself received Jesus in November 1970.
Almost immediately after becoming a believer, Dr. Glaser became involved with what was then the West Coast branch of Chosen People Ministries (formerly known as the American Board of Missions to the Jews). This was the beginning of a forty-year ministry that has included working with Jews for Jesus and Ariel Ministries. Since 1997, Dr. Glaser has served as president of Chosen People Ministries—one of the oldest and largest Messianic missions in the United States.
Chosen People Ministries was established in 1894 by a Hungarian immigrant, Rabbi Leopold Cohn, and today is worldwide with missionaries in 16 countries around the world including the United States, Russia, Germany and Israel.
Dr. Glaser is an alumnus of Northeastern Bible College and holds a Master of Divinity degree in Old Testament from Talbot School of Theology as well as a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, School of Intercultural Studies. He is the co-author of The Fall Feasts of Israel with his wife, Zhava, and co-editor of To The Jew First, The Gospel According to Isaiah 53, and The People, The Land, and The Future of Israel, published by Kregel Publications. Dr. Glaser’s evangelistic book, Isaiah 53 Explained, is now in eleven languages with over 100,000 copies in print. He has written many articles for Christian periodicals and has taught at leading evangelical schools such as Talbot School of Theology, Fuller Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute and Columbia International University.
Dr. Glaser is married to Zhava, a Jewish native of Argentina who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Judaic Studies from the University of Southern California (in conjunction with Hebrew Union College), a Master of Arts degree in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, School of Intercultural Studies and a Ph.D in Jewish History from City University of New York.
Both Mitch and Zhava teach at the Charles Feinberg Center for Messianic Jewish Studies — a partnership between Chosen People Ministries and Talbot School of Theology. The Glasers have two daughters — Miriam and Jenni.
