About the author: EDWARD ROSENFELD is an author, consultant, and innovator. His newsletter (INTELLIGENCE The Future of Computing), which ran monthly from 1984 to 2017, was the first to cover the history and development of neural networks and artificial intelligence. As a consultant and eventual Associate Director with Columbia University’s intellectual property operation, Science and Technology Ventures, he licensed (as intellectual property) inventions and discoveries in computer science, nanotechnology, mathematics, network theory and other sciences to industry and government. He was also a founding editor for the science/science fiction magazine, Omni, and served as a consultant for Viacom, NASA, American Express, and more. His screenplay, MKULTRA, has been adapted for the opera as “Huxley’s Last Trip”. His new website is worldworking.net. Rosenfeld’s interest in altered states of consciousness and reality was first sparked when he was a small child ill with scarlet fever. This illness induced unreal feelings and experiences that were not like those of his ordinary waking consciousness. When he was older, he saw parallel experiences described in literature and in psychology texts.
