What if all of creativity was inspired by a corrupted muse? Would there be an endgame?
Screenwriter-producer Joel Eisenberg (“April Showers”), and Steve Hillard, author of the controversial “Mirkwood: A Novel About JRR Tolkien,” have teamed to pen the eight-part epic fantasy series, “The Chronicles of Ara.” The first volume, “Creation,” will be released in November by Luthando Coeur, the fantasy imprint of Zharmae Press.
In 2011, Hillard pitched his self-published novel to Eisenberg with the intent of producing a feature film based on the work. The two formed a partnership and the project was substantially expanded. Eisenberg and Hillard are presently developing a television project based on the upcoming novels.
The new books are considered companions to Hillard’s earlier work. “Ara” will study the influences of darker fantasists, such as Poe, Lovecraft, Mary Shelley and others, authors of rare insight whose works tended to reach their readers on a primal level, as they themselves toiled within that realm.
“It’s an ambitious series,” says Hillard. “Through eight books we will attempt to elucidate the origins and repercussions of artistic creation, within the conceit that all the world’s artistry has been manipulated by a singular, corrupted muse.”
“The Chronicles of Ara” follows the journey of biographer and antique book collector Thomas McFee, who uncovers a common code hidden within the texts of some of history’s bleaker masterworks. This code, which McFee learns is attributed to a muse named “Ara,” portends the imminence of a new dawn of time and return to “dragon-scorched earth.” McFee alone deciphers the warning, and the immortal Ara’s own tragic motivations. In a race against time to somehow turn back the clock, he is convinced that no one will ever believe him…
“The Chronicles of Ara” saga will take place in several time periods: Pre-Genesis (the age of the dragons), the past – as the featured authors are inspired to comprise their greatest works – and the near-future.
Zharmae Press was formed in December, 2010 and presently publishes 10 imprints. The publishing concern is owned and operated by Travis Grundy, and is based out of Spokane, Washington.
