THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL #4: QUESTS FOR GLORY by SOMAN CHAINANI

You will soon see it on the big screen – THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL. But prior to this – be one of the first to talk to SOMAN CHAINANI – the creator and author who wrote the bestselling three-book series that the movie will be based on.
The School for Good and Evil has sold more than 1.5 million copies and has been sold into 24 languages across 6 continents and Universal Pictures has snapped up film rights to the first book in a seven-figure deal with Joe Roth (Maleficent, Snow White and the Huntsman) and Jane Startz (Tuck Everlasting, Ella Enchanted) producing. The current draft of the script is being written by David Magee, the two-time Academy Award nominated screenwriter of Finding Neverland, Life of Pi, and the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns.
The series was created and written by SOMAN CHAINANI – who is known as a fairy tale expert – taught by the world’s foremost fairy tale scholar at Harvard!! Soman also has background in film (he went to Columbia film school). Soman grew up in Miami without cable, and as a result Disney movies became his source of entertainment. As he got older, he wondered why good always won in a world where things aren’t so black and white – and The School for Good and Evil is a big inspiration for that!

HarperCollins Publishers will publish three more books in the bestselling THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL series! The next three novels, called THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL: THE CAMELOT YEARS, will begin publishing in Fall 2017 with THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL #4: QUESTS FOR GLORY.
This follows after the end of THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL #3: THE LAST EVER AFTER and begins a new era in the Endless Woods – the Camelot Years.
Readers will follow their favorite characters beyond the school, as they set out on their epic quests to achieve fairy tale glory.
“We are so thrilled to expand the rich world Soman has created,” said Antonia Markiet, Senior Executive Editor at HarperCollins Children’s Books,. “We know his fans will love QUESTS FOR GLORY and the adventures that await them in the new books.”
“Like so many of Soman’s readers, I couldn’t help wondering what came next for the characters I’ve grown to care so much about. Happily for us, we’re about to find out…” commented Senior Editorial Director at HarperCollins UK.
“The first three years of school were just the beginning,” Soman Chainani said. “I can’t wait for Readers to see what becomes of their favorite Evers and Nevers as they graduate into their fairy tales. Because as the fairy tale world gets bigger, so do their stories.”
To prime the market for this new installment in the series, THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL: THE EVER NEVER HANDBOOK went on-sale on July 12, 2016. This full-color, illustrated book is an immersive guide to surviving the Endless Woods and is perfect for fans and new readers alike.

And this past summer, the New York Public Library recommended THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL as one of its summer reading series picks for high-schoolers: https://www.nypl.org/events/summer/reading-challenge/book-list-6.

Other things about Soman:
1. He went to Harvard University and basically created his own fairy tale major under the world’s foremost fairy tale scholar, Maria Tatar.
2. He went to Columbia film school and has received awards for his film work.
3. SGE is being make into a major motion picture by Universal Studios.
4. Soman worked as a tutor in NYC helping to get kids into Ivy League schools when he first published this series – it helped him climb his way out of graduate school debt.
5. Disney expert – Soman’s parents didn’t have cable when he was growing up so he watched Disney movies on repeat. After college, he questioned the fluffy perfect endings of these movies and why they changed so much from the fairy tales told years ago, which actually taught children a lesson and didn’t all end with the prince and princess riding into the sunset to their happy ever after.
