Boise, ID, April 2, 2020 ̶ As a young man, Dennis Mansfield studied at West Point. Although he left at the completion of his Sophomore year to take care of his ill mother, he still received an honorary diploma from the class. He later established a career in Idaho politics, becoming a leader in the national conservative Christian political world for many years, and even vied for a seat in Congress. A staunch believer in duty and discipline, Mansfield thought he had all the answers—whether as a lobbyist, a politician, a husband or a parent. But in 2009, his life’s course took an unexpected turn by the tragic death of his son, Nate, who had struggled with opioid and heroin addiction. After this profound, harsh reality, Mansfield questioned his false sense of performance-based leadership that he feels “has plagued evangelical leaders over this last 30 years,” and shifted his focus from his own ambitions to the real needs of others, as a business coach, podcaster and author. Mansfield has now forged an alliance with Joan Blades who co-founded the movement: https://www.LivingroomConversations.org and MoveOn.org .
Now, in his 8th book and after 2 years of research spanning 7 countries, Mansfield releases a (daringly different) first-time historical science-fiction book, To Trust in What We Cannot See: A Time-traveling Historical Thriller . The author takes readers on a dimensional space-time journey into the heart of an ethical dilemma. Set in Vienna, Austria, in the present and past—with a specific focus on January of 1913—this work of historical science fiction raises the possibility: What if you could kill not only Hitler, but also Stalin, Lenin, Trotsky, and Tito, before they became tyrannical monsters and took the lives of millions? How would the world be different if the future father of the Nazi Party had been murdered when he was a young aspiring artist?
In his book, the answers are far from clear and simple and the consequences are utterly terrifying. Drawing on his own life transformation and extensive research into history and physics, the book is filled with fascinating real-life facts, such as, (1) his real-life discovery of a coffee shop in Vienna, named Café Central, (a central location in the book) which in 1913, regularly attracted Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Trotsky, Tito, Sigmund Freud and others; (2) the unlikely and startling links between important historical players, including Ulysses S. Grant, Mark Twain, US Civil War General John Sedgwick, FDR, and Hitler’s first publicist for the Nazi Party, Ernst “Putzi” Sedgwick Hanfstanegel; (3) the fact that most people don’t know about Nazi leader Ernst Rohm and scientist Isaac Newton—and how what Mansfield uncovered fueled his novel’s vision of a horrific future for America and the end of the world and (4), how physicist and author Dr. Brian Greene (The Elegant Universe), rocker Peter Frampton, singer Willie Nelson and the Stuart Sutcliffe Estate (of the Beatle’s fame via his sister Diane Sutcliffe) were consulted in writing this work and gave their support for Mansfield to use their works in this book.
Mansfield can also share his views on the current state of politics, the upcoming election, our nation’s desperate need for healing and leadership…and much more. He will bring together the past and the future through experience and through story.
