Top military officer says US ready to use ‘full range’ of military capabilities
The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Monday said the U.S. military is ready amid heightened tensions with North Korea.
Gen. Joseph Dunford said the U.S. is prepared to use its “full range” of military capabilities if necessary, The Associated Press reported.
Dunford made the comments to his counterparts in South Korea as part of a trip to South Korea, Japan and China.
U.S. military spokesman Capt. Darryn James said Dunford “stressed that North Korea’s ballistic missile and nuclear weapons program threaten the entire global community.”
“He conveyed America’s readiness to use the full range of military capabilities to defend our allies and the U.S. homeland,” James said.
The comments come after Trump over the past week intensified his rhetoric against North Korea.
On Friday, Trump tweeted: “Military solutions are now fully in place,locked and loaded,should North Korea act unwisely. Hopefully Kim Jong Un will find another path!”
On Sunday, the heads of the Defense and State departments wrote in an op-ed that the Trump administration is applying a “peaceful pressure campaign on North Korea.”
