US Senate Candidate Available: Who Wants To Talk To A Democrat That Is Marching For Gun Control This Weekend?

WHO IS JEROME M. SEGAL?

POLICY ANALYST, CONFLICT-RESOLUTION PRACTITIONER, PEACE ACTIVIST, PHILOSOPHER…

DEMOCRATIC SENATE CANDIDATE: Dr. Jerome M. Segal, is running in the Maryland Democratic primary for US Senate against sitting US Senator Ben Cardin (D). Segal is a Senior Research Scholar at the Center for International and Strategic Studies as well as a Research Scholar at the Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy at the University of Maryland. In addition, he is President and founder of The Jewish Peace Lobby.

Philosopher Spends Own $$$ To Distribute 1 Million Leaflets at March For Our Lives

Philosopher Jerome “Jerry” Segal, 74, has plopped down $50,000 of his own money to distribute 1 million leaflets and several thousand tee-shirts at Saturday’s March For Our Lives in DC.

Segal is not rich. He’s a University of Maryland professor, the son of a one-time New York garment worker. He’s running for the US Senate, but for now he’s not speaking about his opponent.

He’s outraged by youngsters being murdered at concerts and in classrooms, but he is also outraged by the carnage among under-privileged children in inner city America that goes on 24/7.

So, he’s trying to change the dialogue Saturday to include all children—not just those living in fear of a gunman stalking school corridors, such as recently occurred in Maryland and Florida, but the all-the-time-fear of those children with the bad luck to be born into our most dangerous cities.

The leaflets and the tee-shirts read: “The Right to a Childhood Without Fear”. He has a battalion of youngsters giving out the million leaflets to the crowd, with some distributing tee-shirts.

“If someone asks how much the tee-shirt costs, I’ve instructed my team to ask them what they would like to contribute,” said Segal. “If they say $1, that’s fine. If less, or nothing, that’s also fine.

“I mainly want to get the word out that every child in America deserves to grow up unafraid,” said Segal, who lives in Silver Spring, Md. and who is often referred to as the “Blue Collar Philosopher”.

His plan, however, is not simply a slogan. He has concrete proposals for reducing the numbers of children killed or maimed by gun violence each year. First off, he would give them an opportunity to escape from their cities for 20% of the time: Free sleep-away camp in July and August and trips at Christmas and Easter break. “Just like the 1%” he says with a grin.

Segal also has a specific plan aimed at reducing violence in schools.

ABOUT: This campaign is about winning in June. The window for a Republican Candidate to enter their primary closed February 27th. There will be no Republican powerhouse on the ballot in November. The June Primary, only open to Democratic voters, will pick Maryland’s next Senator. This campaign is about my defeating Ben Cardin, a sitting Senator, who has been an elected official for 50 years.
