What goes on Underneath the Dome?

The place of work for our nation’s most powerful legislators, the Capitol Building in Washington, DC is where the most pivotal decisions for our country are made. But underneath the dome, it’s not just the movers-and-shakers that are making all the news or shaping history.

The U.S. Capitol Visitors Center, which opened in 2008, houses tales about the building – and the long construction process that began in 1792 with a call for designs and a $500 winning bid put forth by Thomas Jefferson. In addition to being a place of work for Senators and Representatives from every state, the Capitol also houses an important collection of American art, and it is an architectural achievement in its own right.
