With the growing rise in concern with parents in the Coronavirus cases across the U.S. parents are now considering keeping their children home and learning online during the outbreak.
The issue is that there is a high probability that children can infect other classmates, and teachers. The risk is that the students may become unknowingly infectious super-spreaders according to the CDC.
Certain states have increased virtual education like California. If parents are considering taking your kids out of school to learn at home, there are some considerations to know:
- Doctors Notes Can Keep Your Child Safe.
Know your state laws and know that you have a right as a parent to secure the health of your child with doctor’s notes. If there is a person in your home with a pre-existing health condition, you can ask your doctor to write a note for your child to learn from home. Similar to leave of absence notes from work, a leave of absence to learn from home is being considered in each state with a doctor’s note. Excuses from jury duty is considered with a medical consideration or concern. School systems are required to do the same.
- Create “Mental Space” – Create Space for your Child to Learn from home.
In order for your child (or students) to learn from home, you must set up “Mental Space.” This space is necessary for your child to know that learning from home is indeed important in your eyes as a parent. By setting up space, you signal to your child’s brain that learning can come from home. “Mental Space” includes making room on tables to serve as a desk, and converting book shelves to serve as a miniature locker.
- Secure The Right Equipment and Internet
Most U.S. schools have a laptop borrowing program for families who need resources to learn. These programs loan computers with webcams installed. Also, check into Google for faster home internet connections available for parents. These platforms are used by Google employees as they work from home, and Google is making wiFi available for parents.
- Invest in affordable Math Education sites.
Supplemental instruction websites like. Mathaphobia.com/membership help students overcome their math fears. These sites offer videos for students to learn math and help students feel comfortable if they need to overcome their fears of math. Plus, these sites have weekly lectures and can help parents teach their kids math during the pandemic.
- Offer Recess and Lunch Time like School.
When employees work hard, they take breaks. And they have lunch breaks as a way to refresh. Allow your children to take scheduled breaks and rests. No human is able to execute nonstop day after day without rest. Decide a great snack to eat, or a fun video break to reset their thinking minds.
- Consider Yourself Capable of Working Online and Teaching Children in the Same Day
The biggest challenge right now is for single mothers. They need to make money for their families, and they are scared to send their child to school. My recommendation is to listen to your gut. Your Spirit will guide you into the right jobs, so you can protect your children and yourself during the pandemic. The rise of online jobs have a huge soaring rate. It is never too late to switch jobs to find a way to take care of yourself and your children at home.
