What and Who: As the birds and the bees may lead the traditional discussion about the facts of life, so should “term” and “whole life” be part of the discussion when it comes to facts of life insurance.
And having “the talk” about life insurance may be more important now than ever before. Alarmingly, one-third of Americans say that they would be financially impacted within a month of their primary bread winner dying, according to the 2016 Life Insurance Barometer Study conducted by LIMRA, a worldwide research, learning, and development organization.
Also according to the study, only 44-percent of U.S. households have life insurance, yet 70-percent acknowledge the financial assistance it can provide.
So why the low numbers of Americans who have life insurance? The reasons most often stated are that people think that it costs too much, as eight in 10 people overstate the cost by almost two-fold. And for those who hold life insurance policies, one in four people say that they do n0t have enough life insurance.
