â??Cancerâ?? may be the most frightening word in medicine. Life changes profoundly after a cancer diagnosis. Beyond the emotional turmoil that accompanies a cancer diagnosis, patients face a practical necessity: to develop a plan to live with and fight cancer. Selma Schimmel, the founder of Vital Options, understood this. She fought cancer for 30 years, diagnosed at the tender age of 28 with breast cancer. A genetic test later revealed she had the BRCA gene mutation, as her grandmother, mother, and sister, Debby Bitticks. Though she had a prophylactic oophorectomy, she was later diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Vital Options International (VOI) just published a free eBook for the newly-diagnosed cancer patient called The Cancer Concierge® (www.thecancerconcierge.org) based on the system Selma used to manage her own cancer. (See below release.) Her sister Debby Britticks, a cancer survivor and current CEO of Vital Options International, is available to provide tips and strategies on how newly-diagnosed patients can navigate their care and treatment, specifically: · Debbyâ??s three â??Gâ??sâ??: Get informed, get organized and get moving · The value of a second opinion · How and where to find support
