“An indictment and a guilty plea of former Trump campaign officials are making headlines today. The indictment accuses Mr. Manafort of improper business dealings prior to his involvement with the Trump campaign, while the guilty plea involves George Papadopoulos, a low level Carson then Trump foreign affairs campaign employee, who misstated the chronology of certain meetings with foreign nationals.

Conservative commentator, Laura Ingraham labeled today’s events as a big “Nothing-Burger,” saying, “If they had something on Trump, that would be the indictment today.”

President Trump Tweeted that Mr. Manafort’s legal issues stem from activities that happened long before he consulted for the Trump campaign.

In March 2016, as Donald Trump was preparing for a potential floor fight at the Republican convention, Mr. Trump needed a specialist who had experience in corralling delegates and managing the convention process so that the Republican nomination could not be stolen from Republican voters.

Paul Manafort’s name rose to the top of a very short list of people with the experience necessary to successfully win a contested convention. A long-time well-respected Republican, Paul Manafort had helped manage Gerald Ford’s convention fight in 1976, the last time a Republican convention had been held where no candidate had enough delegates to win the convention.”
