WHAT HAS TRUMP DONE TO
THE TAX CODE?
ASK THE EXPERT!
LIST: Where pay most, least taxes…
TAX ANALYST/AUTHOR: Clark Kendall, author of the upcoming book, Middle-Class Millionaire: Surprisingly Simple Strategies to Grow and Enjoy Your Wealth
Like him or loathe him, President Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is the tax code’s largest overall in a generation. That means your tax return-and the amount of your refund-will probably be dramatically different this year.
Clark Kendall from Washington DC area financial services firm Kendall Capital and the author of the new book “Middle Class Millionaire” says the new law is designed to both lower how much you pay, and to make filing your taxes much easier…but that’s definitely not true for everybody.
“This year, most everything is way, way different. Don’t blow it when you do your taxes-it could make a major difference…I’m talking in the thousands of dollars for people,” says Kendall.
Ask Clark…
* What the 3 biggest changes are for middle class taxpayers, and how to take advantage of them
* The huge increase in how much money folks who don’t itemize can now exclude from their taxable income (often called “the standard deduction”)
* Clark says “hold on-you shouldn’t just jump into using that new standardized deduction without doing the math…don’t leave money on the table and short yourself”
* The much hyped, super simple new tax forms are the size of a postcard; but Clark can tell you why the “tax postcard” won’t actually be used by hardly anyone
* Why Clark says he expects less than half the number of taxpayers who took itemized deductions last year, will do it this year
* Why homeowners in some states…like Maryland and California…could get clobbered on their taxes
* How will all these changes affect parents with kids at home? “Big changes, but most of ‘em are good”, says Clark
* Self employed or work in the new “gig” economy? Clark says you should “much, much better off this year tax wise”
