Godfrey Harris is the author of LOBBYCRATIC GOVERNANCE — a new book that offers a different look at why Donald Trump came the forefront of our politics and why so many other like-minded politicians rose to prominence elsewhere in the world. Harris believes that the politics of most Western democracies have been captured by lobbyists representing wealthy organizations working with senior permanent civil servants to capture control of the mechanisms of government. Politicians have been pushed back to positions equivalent to a concierge or facilitator, no longer a factor in setting public policy.

Godfrey Harris is a public policy consultant based in Los Angeles, California. He began consulting in 1968 on government affairs after teaching American and comparative government at UCLA and Rutgers; serving as an intelligence officer in theU.S. Army, serving as a U.S. foreign service officer and as an organizational specialist in President Lyndon Johnson’s Executive Office. Harris has written 75 other books on his own or with associates. He holds degrees from Stanford University and the University of California, Los Angeles.
