EXPERT INTERVIEW: GREEN BERET, SPECIAL OPS COMMANDER ON DEALING WITH THE DISCOMFORT OF THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC
As Americans everywhere make drastic changes to their lives in the battle against coronavirus, we are feeling major discomfort. Businesses and schools are closing. Elections are canceled. The stock market is in freefall. Grocery store shelves are bare.
Retired Green Beret combat vet and V for Valor recipient Jason Van Camp’s best selling new book “Deliberate Discomfort” details how U.S. Special Operations forces overcome fear and dare to win by getting comfortable being uncomfortable.
Sounds like we need that knowledge. Right. About. Now.
Since Van Camp and his elite Mission Six Zero missionsixzero.com team teaches businesses and top organizations including a dozen NFL teams how to overcome massive discomfort…what advice does this veteran of multiple Middle East combat tours have for those of us fighting this new type of war against a global pandemic?
“Embrace it”, says Van Camp. “If you learn how to embrace that “Deliberate Discomfort” that I wrote about, you’re going to not only see, but also can be, a part of a monumental shift in our society and can help to make it grow.”
Jason boldly predicts that due to the deliberate discomfort from coronavirus:
-Defense and protection opportunities will increase. “Our enemies are paying attention; I suspect they are innovating new ideas for chemical warfare and the spread of viruses right now as coronavirus provides a blueprint of an effective and well-planned attack. Can you rise to that challenge and take on that fight?”
-In the wake of widespread enforced social distancing, many will finally realize that driving into work and having office space is an often antiquated and pointless system. “So many people will be working from home, not just temporarily but from now on; the trend was already moving in that direction, and now it’ll go sky-high and reshape our society. From that initial discomfort, comes a multitude of opportunities.”
-Discomfort will allow you to grow. “Amazon and other online retailers are going to crush sales during the pandemic. E-commerce sales accounted for 9% of all retail sales in the U.S. in 2017 and were expected to be 12.4% in 2020, and that was BEFORE the coronavirus sent everyone home. A lot of smart companies are going to be created to compete with Amazon because of this.”
