Four times as many likely voters oppose, rather than favor, lowering the minimum voting age in the U.S. from 18 to 16 years old, a new Rasmussen Poll conducted in the wake of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) voicing support for the change shows.
The national survey of 1,000 likely U.S. voters conducted March 17-18, 2019 shows three-fourths of likely voters reject the idea of lowering the voting age to 16:
Do you favor or oppose lowering the legal voting age from 18 to 16?
Favor: 17%
Oppose: 74%
Not Sure: 9%
According to data provided to CNSNews.com, overall, while four times as many oppose as favor a lower voting age, opposition grows as respondents age, with 84% of those at least 65 years old rejecting lowering the voting age to 16.
