With Rigged Scanners, Trump Can Steal Florida—-and the Nation

By Harvey Wasserman

Rigged Florida digital vote counters could give Trump a second term.

Nearly all Florida’s paper ballots are being electronically scanned.  Federal law says all paper and digital images must be kept for 22 months.

But Florida’s eight most populous counties falsely say saving the images—as done in most of the US—- would cost millions (it won’t).

Florida’s likely 10 million scanned images can be quickly tallied and verified.  But if they’re trashed, recounts could extend beyond the “safe harbor” deadline for seating an Electoral College delegation.

In 2000, a violent mob—-partly led by John Roberts, Brent Kavanaugh and Amy Barrett—-stopped Florida’s recount.  The US Supreme Court then “selected” George W. Bush, 5-4.

Florida 2020 is joining some 35 state in pre-processing all paper ballots, leaving just those cast November 3 to be scanned.

If Biden wins Florida early, it’s over.  But with the digital images destroyed, Trump could drag out a recount to win at the US Supreme Court, 6-3 or 5-4.

Florida’s counties won’t disclose who is coding these machines.  Official outcomes will be sent to central tabulators via the internet, where hacking will be easy, especially with the images erased.

So Florida’s imageless system could give Trump his second term, no matter what its voters want.

In a “policy departure” by the U.S. Postal Service, under incompetent Trump campaign donor Louis DeJoy,

Lawmakers have been barred from observing “firsthand how mail is being processed at Florida’s large facilities in

the final weeks of the election.” According to the Wall Street Journal, at least five Democratic lawmakers have been

barred from entering facilities by Trump’s postal service, and their excuses have been “inconsistent.”

The Trump administration has been one enormous Hatch Act violation after another, and right now their only

chance at getting four more years in office is to steal the election. To say this is not their plan is to forget that

through gerrymandering they have stolen what little remained of the democratic process of the Senate, and

through that they have  stolen the Judicial Branch of our country away from the majority of Americans.
