Reared in Chicago, Ira was reading newspapers at age four and writing editorials
for his high school newspaper at age 14…he has never stopped talking, reading
and writing ever since. He earned his college degree at the University of Chicago
and later a law degree there and then a master’s in U.S.History from the University
of Wisconsin–Madison. He began teaching for a while but in 1968 he began his
main occupation — 38 years as an on-air personality in radio and television.
