About Jennifer E. Miller, PhD,
Dr. Miller is the Founder and President of the NY-based nonprofit, Bioethics International. Her current work addresses the ethics, transparency, and governance of healthcare innovation– focusing on how medicines and vaccines are researched, developed, marketed and made accessible to patients around the world. Dr. Miller created an index that ranks pharmaceutical companies and new drugs on critical ethics and public health performance criteria to help recognize good practices in companies, improve trustworthiness, and incentivize reform where needed.
Dr. Miller has a strong record of public service, having served on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Task Force for Pediatric Emergency Mass Critical Care, on the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Advanced Disaster Life Support Education Consortium, as a consultant to the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and on the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) National Institutes of Health (NIH) Collaboratory. Currently, she also serves on NYU’s IRB for Stem Cell Research Oversight, as a monitor for J&J-NYU’s Compassionate-Use Advisory Committee (CompAC), and on NYU Hospital’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
A prolific writer and speaker, Dr. Miller’s work has appeared in Nature Medicine, the Hastings Center Report, The Scientist, the Journal of Law, Medicine, and Ethics, The American Journal of Bioethics, Cambridge Quarterly of Healthcare Ethics, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, The Journal of Prehospital and Disaster Medicine, the Journal of the Society for Clinical Trials and other scholarly and popular media. She served as a pundit for Fox News from 2009 to 2012 and remains a commentator for print, radio and television news media, having been featured on CBS news, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Bloomberg News, and NPR.
Dr. Miller completed a B.S. in physics from Fordham University, a master’s and doctorate in bioethics from the Pontifical System, pre and postdoctoral fellowships in ethics and institutional corruption at Harvard University, and a postdoctorate in regulatory governance at Duke University.
