is the 2008 Writer of the Year for the League of Utah Writers. She is the author of four children’s fiction books: Through the Rug; Through the Rug 2: Follow that Dog; Stowaway: The San Francisco Adventures of Sara the Pineapple Cat; and Santa’s Mysterious Boot, a new Christmas picture book for 2015.
Her teen nonfiction books include What’s it Like Living Green: Kids Teaching Kids by the Way They Live. This book is the winner of the National Indie Excellence Award; The Teen Development Award, the USA Book News Best Books Award and the Silver Quill from the League of Utah Writers. Drugs Make You Un-Smarter is a joint effort between Jill Ammon Vanderwood and her granddaughter, Savanna Peterson. This book is a finalist in The Indie Excellence Awards, a winner of the Gold Quill Award from the League of Utah Writers and a Silver Winner of the Mom’s Choice Awards. Shaking Behind the Microphone, Overcoming the Fear of Public Speaking is the author’s first book for adults. This book is the Winner of the Gold Quill from the League of Utah Writers and the USA Book News, Best Books Award.
The author is introducing her latest book, Erase the Problem of Bullying in 2015. This is a teen book which addresses bullying from the perspective of the bully and those who are being bullied.
Jill is an experienced writer, and speaker. She has taught workshops for writers, as well as being a keynote speaker for the League of Utah Writers. She speaks at school assemblies, teaches writing assignments in classrooms at schools, has spoken at drug rehabs, boys and girls clubs, church groups, summer camps and scout troops. She is interviewed for radio and television.
Jill grew up in Oregon, the third of eleven children. Jill and her husband Bill are parents of four and grandparents of nine, with two great-grandsons. They have recently moved to Southern Idaho.
Jill loves going on adventures with her grandchildren, she loves to travel and tries to write something every day.
