One of biggest elections in our history took place last night, but people weren’t just waiting to find out who the next president was going to be. A lot of the nation was waiting to see how the rules surrounding marijuana in certain states were going to play out. There were five states (California, Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, and Nevada) who were seeking approval to go beyond medical marijuana use and permit it for recreational use among adults.
California voters approved a proposition to allow the recreational use of marijuana while other states like Nevada and Florida expanded legal access to the drug. Voters in Arizona and North Dakota also passed new marijuana measures on Tuesday, which makes this the closest the U.S. has ever come to a national referendum on marijuana.
