Nancy Beckerman-Out of Time: One Couple’s Journey Through Cancer

Nancy Greyson Beckerman has been privileged to work as a teacher, computer programmer,
medical office manager, museum docent and fine artist.

She received her education at Cornell University and Hunter College, and further in graduate
school at Boston University and NYU. A native New Yorker, she’s lived in the area for most of
her life.

Beckerman created art for more than 35 years, first as a painter, and, within recent years, as
an art-quilter. She has won a number of awards and been selected for inclusion in “Who’s Who
in American Art.” Her work has appeared in several professional publications, been exhibited
worldwide and hangs in numerous collections. Her sensibility is the same in all media, and is
centered on relationships, emotions and the dance of life.

In 1998 Beckerman’s husband of 33 years was diagnosed with sarcoma, a deadly form of
cancer. For the next four years, the couple fought the disease together, managing to take
vacations and celebrate family occasions in between cancer treatments. Beckerman started
keeping a journal during this time, and continued writing for about a year after her husband’s
passing. Her debut book Out of Time: One Couple’s Journey Through Cancer (Signalman
Publishing, October 2011) is the result of that endeavor.

In retirement, Beckerman lives in Pound Ridge, NY and volunteers at cancer organizations
including Corporate Angel Network.
