An Arctic Thriller
Roger Herst is the author of Nunavut: An Artic Thriller, a David and Goliath story of the Inuit people’s fight to protect their native land and waterways from a Russian conspiracy to steal its resources and wealth for themselves. It’s a story of danger, love, politics, and the fight for survival. Though everyone knew that Northeastern Canada was super rich in gas, oil, gold, silver, uranium and dozens of other minerals, the wealth was buried under frozen tundra and locked up behind ice-blocked waterways…. Until now.
According to Herst, “Our planet is getting smaller and there are fewer cultures and places that have not been well documented.” He can share why the international community needs to pay attention to Nunavut sooner rather than later and the fight its citizens may soon face.
In the fictional story Herst presents, protagonist Dr. Leetia Quilliq, a veterinarian for Arctic mammals, is swept into an international geophysical intrigue. He raises the question, who can preserve the soul of these fragile people in their ancestral homeland? Though Nunavut has been a relatively unknown territory of Canada, it may soon play a crucial role in international conflict over valuable resources. With warming temperatures, it is now starting to register on the radars of industrial giants.
