As the School Year Winds Down, How Parents Can Help Their Kids

Develop Better Habits and Focus on Becoming a Star Student

It’s Spring time and we all tend to get a touch of the old Spring fever. But for students of all ages, school isn’t out for summer…not just yet. And with college prep tests like the ACTs and SATs around the corner and report cards looming, now is the time when those all-important study habits are more important than ever.

In every area in life good habits are one of the keys to success. But with kids, getting them to form those habits can be difficult. And while some parents seem to have a knack for it, others struggle with getting their children to stay in a routine, especially older kids who might have “other ideas”, and the result can be conflict and poor academic performance.

So how can parents help children of all ages, especially those who might not be able to identify with the long term goals of getting into a good school so that they can get a good job in ten years, develop the good habits now that will stay with them and help them succeed?

Well the science behind a new app called Gradestar, shows that rewarding children for tasks in a meaningful way actually helps them achieve more in the short term and also helps them develop better habits in the long run. The app is based on several proven psychological principles; extrinsic motivation, intrinsic motivation and habituation.
