It was announced that John Kerry, Secretary of State, has entered into an agreement with Russia to reduce the killing in Syria. In making this agreement Kerry has widened an increasingly public divide between himself and Ashton B. Carter, Defense Secretary, as Carter has reservations about the plan for America and Russia to join forces to target terrorist groups.

The Pentagon has concerns that sharing information with Russia could reveal how the United States uses intelligence to conduct airstrikes which Russia could in turn use for their own advantage. While the U.S. and Russia have worked together in a limited capacity in the past and may share the same views on Syria, the two militaries are combative towards each other in other places. Does this put the United States in a vulnerable position?
