Hello, I’m Priyanka Samra. I am a poet and aspiring screenwriter. I was born in Toronto and grew up in Medford, OR a small town in Southern Oregon. I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology at Saint Mary’s College of California. I started writing when I was about 16 years old in high school. In 2018 I decided to pursue writing as a profession and compiled my poetry over the years into a manuscript. My dad was always reciting poetry from Indian literature which had resonated with me since my childhood, this sparked my interest in writing.
My writing embodies an array of topics, with the central themes being women empowerment, bringing awareness to cultural taboos and social issues, family, mindfulness and meditation, and abstract ideas both tangible and intangible.
My father passed away from Valley Fever in August 2019, and I dedicated an entire chapter to his legacy. A major part of my healing process was writing about him: everyday before work I wrote about him, and I continue to do so– it makes me feel as if he is still here, I’ve in a sense made him immortal through my writings
