THE URGENT NEED TO IMPROVE TREATMENTS & OUTCOMES FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER

Mom of a young blood cancer patient shares her story to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s commitment to driving forward pediatric cancer research

Leukemia is the most common cancer diagnosed in children and adolescents younger than 20 years. Treatments for this type of cancer are harsh and outdated, and those who survive their diagnosis are at risk of experiencing long-term effects and life-threatening complications.

Courtney Addison knows all too well the challenges and devastating effects a cancer diagnosis can have on a child and their family. In spring 2020, her three-year-old son Cayden was diagnosed with a high-risk form of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). To treat his cancer, Cayden endured surgeries, chemotherapy and countless overnight hospital stays.

Courtney is available on Wednesday, October 13 from 7am – 12pm ET to discuss Cayden’s health now and share her family’s experience by Cayden’s side throughout his cancer journey. Courtney will also talk about the valuable support she and her family received from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the importance of LLS’s partnership with national retailer Burlington to drive forward research for better treatments and cures for children with cancer, and how your community can make a difference in the lives of pediatric blood cancer patients like her son Cayden.

LLS is committed to improving outcomes for children with blood cancer. Through the LLS Children’s Initiative, it is offering more free support services and resources for pediatric patients and increasing its investment in pediatric cancer research so children will not only survive a cancer diagnosis but also thrive after treatment for many years to come. As LLS and Burlington celebrate 20 years of partnership and commitment to blood cancer patients, Burlington has committed to a five-year, $20 million investment to The LLS Children’s Initiative, to support more pediatric research grants and break down the barriers that stand in the way of pediatric cancer care innovation, as well as further the mission of LLS.
