California’s first known COVID-19 homeless death
Santa Clara County officials confirm the first-known death of a homeless resident attributed to COVID-19, the novel coronavirus. The revelation is giving new urgency to efforts to protect a group of people who have few resources to fight the pandemic.
“The coronavirus is in these camps and I knew that was gonna happen,” said homeless advocate Pastor Scott Wagers, of CHAM Deliverance Ministry.

Cities worry about homeless populations as coronavirus surges
People who are homeless face a huge risk of exposure to the coronavirus sweeping the nation, and city officials worry that their homeless populations could become vectors from which the virus spreads even more broadly than it has already.
The number of people experiencing homelessness across the country has grown in recent years after falling in the wake of the recession, as housing stocks diminish and prices rise. In many cities like Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Washington, entire homeless camps have sprouted.

FIRST NYT HOMELESS SHELTER RESIDENT TESTS POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS
A resident of a city homeless shelter tested positive for coronavirus — a first-of-its-kind case that sent the woman’s dorm roommates into quarantine, officials said Tuesday.
Department of Homeless Services (DHS) officials said they are aware of about 24 homeless shelter residents who have either sought care or have been connected to hospitals “for COVID-like or COVID-related symptoms” since the first New Yorker tested positive March 1.
