An interview with weight-loss coach Joey Dweck, founder of Weightlossbuddy.com
Does the sight of steaming mashed potatoes drenched with melted butter and homemade gravy make your heart beat faster? Does the sound of an electric carving knife buzzing through succulent roasted ham and oven browned turkey start pools of saliva forming in your mouth? Does the smell of a hot apple pie or freshly baked cookies send shivers of delight racing up and down your spine?
Statistics show that most diets go haywire during the last part of the year. But weight loss coach Joey Dweck, founder of Weightlossbuddy.com, offers a strategy which he says is clinically proven to keep us thin and trim during what he calls the coming Cheating Season.
Studies show that if an individual restricts calories for a five day period, they can then switch to an unrestricted calorie diet and actually lose weight, says Dweck. This simple dieting strategy allows us to watch our caloric intake for a few days now then enjoy all those wonderful holiday meals later in the month without guilt or weight gain.
Dweck says this healthy and effective dieting strategy was developed by researchers at the University of Southern California’s Longevity Institute.
The research team described their dieting regimen as a fast-mimicking diet. The purpose of restricting calories for 5 days every month is to periodically trick the body into thinking it was starving, says Dweck.
During the 5 days of calorie restriction, Dweck says the body turns off its fat-storing mechanisms and turns on its fat-burning systems. The result is a drop in weight and lowering blood sugar, reduced general inflammation, and improvements in other aspects of metabolic health.
The researcher’s diet plan, originally published in the journal Cell Metabolism, delivers healthy weight loss and the other health benefits of fasting without actually starving the body or triggering sensations of hunger, says Dweck.
As per the plan, nutritional intake during the 5-day fast-mimicking period should be:
Day One: Overall food intake should add up to 1,090 calories, comprised of 10% protein, 56% fat, and 34% carbohydrate.
Days Two thru Five: Dieters are allowed daily consumption of 725 calories in a ratio of 9% protein, 44% fat, and 47% carbohydrate.
Weightlossbuddy.com decided to make this diet it easy by prepackaging daily allotments of food, snacks, and teas that mirrored the caloric values and protein-to-fat-to-carbohydrate ratios recommended by the researchers, making it available as The 5-Day FAST Diet, says Dweck.
To fully enjoy the holiday meals ahead, now is a perfect time to start this diet plan. says Dweck.
Weight Loss Buddy has been helping individuals achieve their weight loss goals for nearly 16 years, and this is the first diet we’ve ever endorsed to our members, says Dweck. We’ve watched it consistently produce healthy results and we really believe in it.
