TOPIC-Guest Opportunity: Cameron Reddy, Legal Expert and Author of “By Force of Patriots” The Second Amendment guarantees to individuals the right to keep and bear arms. However, current BATF regulations allow the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), to revoke those rights to veterans deemed, by that very agency, to be “mentally incompetent.” In a recent article, Change on Veterans Gun Rights Lights Fire at washingtontimes.com, Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma objects to this inherent conflict of interest and egregious method of revoking Constitutional rights, and has suggested that Veterans alleged by the DVA to be “mentally incompetent” should have their rights determined by a real judge. The issues are complex but important. Veterans suffering from severe PTSD or depression may be legitimately denied the right to CARRY their firearms in public, but denying OWNERSHIP to this special class of Americans, expertly TRAINED and TRUSTED by our military to properly use firearms, is not a matter for some administrative flunky.
