It’s been a week since WHMI news director Jon King left the Livingston County radio station in a very public breakup.

King, who had worked at the station for nearly 20 years, resigned on air during his regular “Mike & Jon in the Morning” show, which is co-hosted by Mike Marino. The station had offered King a severance package with a termination date of Feb. 25.

In the ensuing days, King has shared more details about his tenuous relationship with Krol Communications, the station’s owner since 2015. At the crux of their breakup, it seems, is the question of outside interference in news reporting.
