Dawn Russell and the Birth of 8G

When Dawn Russell was in her mid-20s, she was diagnosed with stage 3 (out of 4) cancer. To that point, she had been healthy and athletic, modeling for Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan. To the world, she appeared fearless, yet down to earth. Friends called her a “cowgirl,” both for her Capricorn tenacity and her tomboy behavior: she had a no make-up, jeans mentality.
Dawn’s cancer protocol was not straightforward. During Dawn’s fourth surgery she got a serious bone infection, weakening her to the point where chemotherapy and radiotherapy were no longer options.
Dawn immediately took an active role in her own care, traveling the world to find complementary treatments. By pure coincidence, the man who would become her husband – English environmental investor Lord James Russell – opened the door and met Dawn, trailing an entourage of a nurse and a set of IV tubes. Dawn and James went on to have two children despite warnings from her American doctors not to “roll the dice” with pregnancy.
During her recovery, Dawn consumed high levels of blue-green algae, spinach, kale and more, and noted a direct correlation between the greens she consumed and her general well-being, both inside and out. Vegetables helped detox and oxygenate her blood, and helped to balance her pH levels. Dawn’s condition continued to improve; she was eventually asked to sit on the board of Beth Israel Hospital’s Integrative Center, to be a patient advocate advising on health/wellness treatments for patients.
Dawn got married, gave birth and continued to grow stronger and more vital. Her loved ones asked why she seemed to be at her physical best, despite the grueling strain of her illness. Her simple answer: greens. Yet Dawn knew the common-sense power of greens was not widely embraced. A mere 9% of Americans consume their recommended daily allowance of greens, according to a recent CDC report. Americans have now started to embrace liquid greens, yet the most popular brands tend to be expensive, perishable, and quietly loaded with sugar. She asked herself: How can I make these vital greens more widely available?
Dawn set out to source the world’s finest greens, traveling from farm to lake, sampling and negotiating. She then met with chemists and manufacturers, who would help her distill these favored greens into a single, simple, great-tasting effervescent tablet. That proved to be a big challenge, and frustrated chemists complained that the problem seemed unsolvable, but Dawn persisted.
Her husband patiently tried 263 different formulations until they found the one that was right. 8G is now a reality. Beginning October 2015, 8G will be sold nationally, at retail and online, as part of Nordstrom’s “Beauty from Within” initiative. 8G is intended as a green boost, rather than a replacement – it is intended to bolster the green intake of a busy population, one mom, dad, busy professional or hard-working student at a time.
Dawn now lives with her husband and two children, splitting time between London and New York. She is healthy, happy and enthusiastic, excited that her winding health journey has led here.
8G is the world’s first effervescent drink containing these eight critical greens. You simply drop a tablet into water, it fizzes, you drink, it tastes great. Each tablet has zero sugar and just nine calories.
8G is green simplicity, available at Nordstrom for $12.50 for a tube of ten.
