“TIME & PRESSURE”

JOEY “CHICAGO” WALSER – Bass, Back Up Vocals, Songwriter

BLAKE ALLISON – Lead Vocals, Guitar, Producer, Songwriter

THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND EGYPT CENTRAL RETURN WITH A NEW NAME, A NEW

ATTITUDE, AND A NEW LEASE ON LIFE:

Q: Why at this point in your career have you decided to start Devour the Day?

Joey: “Sometimes you need to take a step back and regroup before you can move forward. We

have been working together as Egypt Central for over a decade, and we felt it was time to put

that portion of our life on hiatus and create music truer to our influences. Our day-to-day

experiences, personal and professional struggles, and relationships have molded the music of

Devour the Day, and we entered the writing process 100% committed to delivering those truths.”

Q: How does this album differ from your previous work with Egypt Central?

Joey: “This work was done without compromise. I look at it like this: When you write a song, it

starts with an idea. Once that foundation is there, you have a lot of important people suggesting

different changes. While many of these changes can help the song, they can also take you

farther away from your original purpose. For this album, we sought to minimize the amount of

Q: Your new album is called “Time & Pressure.” Is that an insight into your mindset throughout

the album’s creation?

Blake: “Most definitely. First, we wanted to get into the studio as soon as possible. In Egypt

Central, four years passed between the release of our first and second record, and that’s a gap

that we never want to put our fans through again.”

Joey: “The pressure comes from our responsibilities. We made a commitment to ourselves, our

families, our fans, and anyone else who has given us support along the way. While we don’t

want to let anyone down, this pressure isn’t necessarily a bad thing—it drove us to expose the

love and honesty that are the core of Devour the Day.”

Q: Blake, what was it like to co-produce your own record?

Blake: “It was empowering to discover what Joey and I were capable of on our own. We did all

the tracking in Joey’s living room and put ourselves in a great position prior to entering the

studio. Once we were there, we focused primarily on adding the layers necessary to bring our

music to a new level.”

Q: Can you expand on the meaning behind your lead track, “Good Man”?

Joey: “‘Good Man’ is really about the struggle of a man at a crossroads. All of us reach a point

in our lives when we question the current path we’re taking and seek some deeper form of

wisdom, truth, or salvation. The religious undertones in ‘Good Man’ beg the question; can we

find the will within ourselves to see the light? Can we be saved, or are we even worth saving?”

Q: Other songs like “Get Out Of My Way” and “Blackout” hit the listener right between the eyes.

Blake: “Musically and lyrically, we wanted to give those songs a real cutting edge. They both

imply how we are all in control of our own futures, and how we can’t let them be dictated by

anyone else. That’s something we truly believe, and we want that message to be heard loud

Q: What made you guys ease the mood for tracks like “Crossroads” and “The Drifter”?

Blake: “We felt the lyrics in these songs should be highlighted. In ‘Crossroads,’ we look toward

a promising future, in spite of all the pain we’ve experienced. In a sense, it resolves the themes

that have permeated throughout the record.”

Joey: “As with all our past records, we always love to finish the album with a thought-provoking,

acoustic track that really resonates. ‘The Drifter’ is a reflection on the journey the album

describes. Even through the obstacles this drifter faces, his dream ‘never dies.’”

Q: What’s in store for Devour the Day?

Joey: “We plan to hit the road. We always love coming back to the cities that have embraced us

in the past. We can’t wait to reconnect with our old fans and meet some new ones. Most

importantly, we’re excited to see where this journey takes us. This is an incredible opportunity

for Blake and me, and the sky is the limit.”
